One can be forgiven for thinking that finding an office space in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is an easy task given the massive number of steel and glass skyscrapers that are mushrooming in each and every corner of the city. However; many find it a daunting task given the hurdles that one needs to come across to find the appropriate building at the right location, furnishing it, securing internet access and then maintaining it day in and day out.
Molla Business Group (MBG), a startup established some ten years ago, has now stepped into the scene to address this issue and has come up with an innovative idea that enables its clients to use its office spaces from as short as an hour to weeks and months.
“We first tested this business some ten years ago and realized that the timing was not right,” said Tadele Sinesibhat, Business Manager of the company. “Ten years ago the concept was not familiar with many entrepreneurs and businesspeople except a few international companies and western based NGOs. But now business entrepreneurs are growing fast and multinational corporations are flocking here.”
According to Tadele, his company’s services are especially a perfect fit for businesses that are in a project phase as renting small office spaces for either long or short periods will help them save money and also saves time as it involves no furnishing and maintaining of work spaces.
“Besides, it’s a perfect location for foreign investors who visit Addis for a short period, for example to conduct market researches, and need office space. In addition, NGOs and international organizations that have project based staffs but have small offices to accommodate them can find our services very suitable,” he explained.
“Furthermore, MBG offers a full scale business support services for investors planning to establish their company in Ethiopia. We provide facilitation services to secure investment and business licenses, work and residence permit and industrial park lease agreements. These services significantly reduce costs and time spent and increases business efficiency.”
In addition to the Ethiopian government’s housing development projects that aim to build 2.4 million buildings between 2015 and 2021 as part of the second Growth and Transformation Plan, thousands of private real estate houses and business complexes are mushrooming inside and in the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
But that hasn’t made finding the right office space any easier.
Ashenafi Molla, Marketing Manager at MBG, says their office space is a one stop shop for all office needs. “People often find it easier and focused when they work from office spaces than hotel rooms or lobbies,” he explained.
Molla Business Group’s furnished offices, located on the 5th floor of Yewubdar Yirga Building just behind Alem Cinema on Bole Road, provides a full support service complete with high- speed internet, a meeting room, refreshment corner, stationary and courier personnel with reasonable prices.
It charges 45 USD plus VAT per day for its executive offices for short period users whereas it has various packages for those who stay for longer durations. In addition, there is an option to work on open work stations for as short as an hour for those who prefer cheaper packages which starts as low as 25 USD per day.
Ethiopia’s economy has been growing in double digits for the most part of the past decade and a massive public investment has contributed to the boom in the construction sector. According to the World Bank, the country will become a middle income country by 2025 if the current growth trajectory continues.
