Ten senior technical experts from the AU Commission will take part in a two-weeks training program at Huawei’s headquarters in China. The training will focus on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) policies and regulations.
At the launch ceremony held today at the AU Headquarters, the participants underwent a pre-departure orientation and guidance given by Huawei, the African Union Commission, and Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the African Union.
Addressing the opening ceremony on behalf of the AU Commission, the AUC Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey said China has dynamic, flexible leadership that shows Africa the way through inclusive education as foundation and it’s application of science and technology. He expressed his appreciation to Huawei for their support to provide the training for African ICT experts. He pointed out that the topics of the training are very relevant for Africa and urged the participants to use the opportunity to acquire the knowledge to effectively implement the African projects. “Education, training, science and technology is key for Africa especially as we focus on the theme of harnessing the demographic dividend of the youth through investments. The skills and know-how transfer is key,” he stated.
On his part the Counsellor for Cooperation and Exchange of the Mission of China to AU H.E. Mr. Chen Ning stated the training organized in collaboration with partnership with Huawei is to help Africa in the effort to develop ICT capacity, which is in line with China’s commitment of supporting Africa to realize sustainable development under the “Ten Major Cooperation Plans” between China and Africa. The program will be continued for more batches. Finally he urged the participants to explore China during their stay in country for the training.
Speaking on behalf of Huawei, Deputy CEO Ethiopia Mr. Adam Ma stated with 18 years of experience within Africa’s ICT industry coupled with extensive industry global network, Huawei is well positioned to partner with the African Union and share its experience.
