Ethiopian champion Hafetab Weldu, Getachow Astbha, Joseph Areruya, Samuel Mugisha, El Mehdi Chokri and Louis Visser will be the new young faces joining Dimension Data’s (DiData) feeder team for the 2017 season. Super Sport reported that the two Ethiopians will be among the six new riders join DiData feeder team.
Each of these riders was carefully handpicked by the management team after showing consistent results and promise over the last two years.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka Continental is said to be all set for its second season with 11 exciting young prospects making up the squad for 2017. As the feeder team to DiData’s World Tour outfit, the continental team will see six new African riders join the squad which will race a predominantly European calendar once again.
Last year, having its continental feeder team based in Europe for its first full season presented numerous challenges to both riders and staff.
The team was able to pick up eight race victories on the African continent, including three under-23 national titles, but it was the strong performances in the European under-23 events where the riders developed best.
The most significant moment of the year came at the Coppa della Pace where Keagan Girdlestone was involved in a life-threatening crash.
