The long-distance running great, Haile Gebrselassie, was elected to lead the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) as President for the coming four years. Haile, who is regarded as the greatest distance runner of all times, won 9 of the total 15 votes to become the new President of the Federation.
Haile said he was happy the Federation had elected him as President. However, he said, “it put on my shoulder a great responsibility.”
Haile won two Olympic gold medals over 10,000 meters and Berlin Marathon four times consecutively. He had major competition wins at distances between 1500 meters and the marathon.
He set 27 world records.
